Letter to CNN, about another discrimination
case for sexual orientation
Jan 2006
I was very glad to see
the report on the discrimination for sexual orientation
that was suffered by a couple at the Intercontinental
in Los Cabos, Baja California MEXICO.
Only by denouncing cases like
this, we will achieve a respectful and egalitarian
society (included religion, gender, ethnicity,
etc.).
I am another victim of discrimination;
my wounds are not physical and therefore not visible.
My self esteem was destroyed; my career development
possibilities artificially limited and finally
put an end to a successful 16 years in the industry.
All of this because of the homophobia of the Human
Resources Director of my employer who said "While
I am head of HR at Coca Cola FEMSA, I will not
have a faggot as one of its Directors".
For the last 15 months I've pursued
all my options to denounce what happened to me,
including starting legal action both in the Civil
and Criminal Courts.
I've decided to make this public in order to make
sure this doesn't go unpunished but most important
that they don't do it to someone else.
In my mind, it is not enough
to have tolerance; my goal is to foster a real
inclusion culture.
Thank you for exposing to top
of the iceberg, in one of these cases. I wonder
how much else is going on beneath the surface?
Best Regards,
Roberto Mendoza Ralph
